Koi Story is not an expert on types of koi fish. We'll just come right out and say it from the beginning. Koi Story is all about loving you koi, not getting wrapped up on what type of koi fish it is. But we do know where to find information on identifying varieties of koi.   • Nishikigoi - This website is a great visual resource for identifying koi fish varieties. Nishikigoi has extensive photos of many types of koi, incuding Gosanke, Bekko, Utsurimono, Asagi, Tancho, Hikarimono, Goromo, Hikarimoyo, Matsuba and Kawarimono. It's a great visual guide that highlights koi fish colors and varieties of koi.
  • Amarillo Koi Society - The Amarillo Koi Society is another great collection of images of different varieties of koi. They many of the same types of koi as Nishikigoi, as well as examples of Kohaku, Sanke, Showa, Ogon, Chagoi, Shusui, Doitsu, Koromono, Ochiba-Shigure and the Midori Goi koi varieties. These guys really know their stuff and worth a visit.
  • Koi and Water Garden Society of Central New York - Black koi fish, red koi, yellow koi, metallic koi. You name it. These New Yorkers know their koi. They list information for most of the fish that the other resources do. They also go into details about koi with silver sparkling scales (ginrin) and golden sparkling scales (kinrin) - koi with both are kinginrin.
  • Zazizam.com - As if there weren't enough types of koi fish listed here already, this source is one of many on the web that host a great infographic that add varieties like Goshiki, Kumonryu, Kujaku, Gin Matsuba, Orenji Ogon, Platinum Ogon and Yamabuki Ogon to our list of types of koi.
